A large collection of Computer Gaming World Magazines have been made availalbe online at the CGW Archive (http://www.cgwmuseum.org//) due to the tremendous scanning effort of the CGW Museum (http://cgw.vintagegaming.org/). The wasteland collection below contains excerpts from several of the magazines, ranging from a mention of a "mad max" like game in production to a preview, review, hints, and it being named CGW adventure game of the year! Not every wasteland reference is in here from the magazine but most of the early ones are. (It does not include references to wasteland when reviewing other games and only one of the top game ratings charts that it appeared in). Be sure to check out both the archive and the museum!

A Return to Wasteland

With Wasteland in the news again and the promise of a new Wasteland game true to its roots with top down graphics and turn based combat, I am feeling motivated to restart my playthrough and commentary on the original Apple II version.
I started the playthrough on the 20th anniversary of my purchase date of the original in march 1988. Real life interfered and I didn't end up completing it. However, I did record screen captures (actually memory dumps of the HGR pages) to reconstruct the playthrough as a movie later on. Yeah, it seems sort of crazy to have a complete playthrough of an rpg but it sounded fun.

Anyway, I will be gathering all of those files and try to find time to continue playing. In the meantime, here's a sample movie I made back in 2008. (or try the mp4 version if you have trouble with quicktime)
